There is some good news for disabled workers today. The Obama administration has made plans to improve and increase employment for disabled workers in the U.S.

A proposed rule announced Thursday by the Labor Department would require most federal promoted contractors to set a goal of having disabled workers make up at least 7 percent of their employees.

In previous years, the government has greatly promoted the hiring of women and minorities, but is now devoting resources and efforts to recruit and hire more disabled workers.

Because people with disabilities are most prone to discrimination, this new law will provide disabled workers with an opportunity to search for a job and not be afraid of being discriminated.

If you have ever been a victim of discrimination, contact McAllen’s employment attorney of The Pruneda Law Firm at 956-502-0907.

It is ironic that The Scooter Store, a Texas-based retailer which serves people with limited mobility, has been sued by the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for disability discrimination.

According to the EEOC, the retailer refused to accommodate an employee’s request for a temporary leave due to a knee injury and then fired him from a New York store.

EEOC says that the employee informed the company that he was incapacitated due to psoriatic athritis and required a leave for treatment, but his request was denied. He was then let go, reportedly for job abandonment.

Disability discrimination violates the American with Disabilities Act. If you have ever been a victim of discrimination, you have the right to fight back. Contact the Pruneda Law Firm in McAllen at 956-502-0907 for more information on employment law.
